What it is
A gummy smile (clinically, excessive gingival display) is the appearance of more upper gum than feels balanced at full smile. For most patients it is simply how their lip lifts. For some it is a hyperactive muscle that can be calmed with a few precisely placed units.
The work is quick, the dose is small, and the change is one of the most satisfying we offer. The smile becomes fuller in proportion, the gum shows in balance, and patients describe the relief of laughing in photographs without thinking about it.
What we look for

Where it isn’t the answer
It will not change your smile. The smile remains entirely yours; only the over-lift is softened.
It will not address skeletal causes. If the gum show is from jaw anatomy, we refer to a maxillofacial colleague.
It will not last forever. Three to four months per session, often extended after a year of treatment.
It will not freeze the upper lip. You will eat, drink, and speak with no change at all.
It will not be necessary for everyone. Some gum show is beautiful; we treat only when it bothers you.

A few units of anti-wrinkle placed in the levator labii superioris beside the nose. Limits how high the upper lip rises when you smile. Conservative dose: the smile stays full, only the over-lift is softened.
Small volume of soft hyaluronic acid placed in the upper lip body to add fullness that reads in proportion to the gum show. Often combined with the muscle work for the most balanced result.
A few units along the upper lip border allowing the lip to roll outward slightly. Reads as a fuller lip without volume, softening the relative gum display.
