What it actually is.
About this treatment
The dimpled, orange-peel texture that some chins show at rest or on speaking comes from an overactive muscle. A small dose relaxes it, returning the chin to a smooth, calm surface.
The science
The medicine is botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein. Placed into a precise muscle, it binds the nerve endings that tell that muscle to contract and quietly interrupts the signal, by cleaving a transport protein called SNAP-25, for anyone who likes the detail. The muscle rests, the skin over it stops being folded, and the line softens. The effect is local and temporary: the nerve grows fresh endings over three to four months and movement returns in full. As a pharmacist, dose and dilution are where Dr Beiki is most exacting, because that is the whole difference between a face that looks rested and one that looks frozen.

Where it isn’t the answer
A line that stays when the face is completely at rest. That is settled into the skin, not held by muscle, and does better with skin treatments or a little filler.
A heavy or hooded brow treated in the wrong pattern. The muscles that lift and lower the brow have to be balanced, which is why the assessment comes before the needle.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding, or a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis. In these cases Dr Beiki will not treat.
An event in the next fortnight. The effect builds over ten to fourteen days, so it is never a same-week fix.
Worth knowing
Relaxing a single muscle sounds blunt. Chosen precisely, it is one of the most versatile tools in the face, and most of what it does is not quite what people imagine.
Far more than softening lines.
The same protein eases forehead and frown lines and crow's feet, but it also lifts a heavy brow, calms a gummy smile, smooths a dimpled chin, relaxes a downturned mouth, slims a clenched jaw, softens neck bands and switches off the nerves that drive underarm sweat. Which muscle, and how much, decides whether it smooths, lifts, slims or quiets.
A line has two lives.
First it shows only when you move. Later it stays when you have stopped. Treated in the first life it rarely reaches the second, because the skin is no longer being folded thousands of times a day and gets to lie flat and recover. Caught late, the same line needs resurfacing rather than relaxing. Timing matters as much as dose.
The real measure
How much movement you keep is yours to choose. Some want a smooth, glassy stillness; others would rather keep their frown and their surprise. We agree it before I treat, so the face you see is the one you asked for, not one the dose decided.
